Jharkhand gets its first non-tribal CM

Raghubar Das 2PATNA: Tribal-dominated Jharkhand was set to get its first non-tribal chief minister in its 14 years as the BJP legislature party elected Raghubar Das as its leader at a meeting in Ranchi.

Das, who belongs to the backward class and is a five-time MLA, is all set to take charge as CM on Sunday.

Sources in the BJP said the swearing-in of the new government will take place on December 28, and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The sources added that there are likely to be around 12 ministers, including the CM, and two major portfolios will be given to the BJP’s ally, the All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU).

An AJSU leader will also be made deputy chief minister.

Hours after his election as leader, Das met governor Syed Ahmed and staked claim to form the government, accompanied by AJSU president Sudesh Mahto and the victorious MLAs.
